Opening up the center "hole" in turret

The turret for the Loadmaster has the blind hole in the center. I was wondering if anyone has taken the turret and drilled out that area. My concern is with that material removed the plate may have a tendency to flex. I know it has been done with an aftermarket turret but I am sure the materials use...
