This is just a guess but maybe you are feeling the case sizing part of the die. The Lee FCD has a case sizing ring at the bottom of the die. If the flare on the case is to wide it will hit that ring and might cause what you are describing.

Has anyone tried this mod? I having trouble with LOA on my Pro 1000. I am getting close to .020" variances on some of my loaded ammo. I just finished a Shell plate rebuild and I cleaned all the dies but nothing has helped yet, I still get a few shells that are way out of tolerance. Most vary up...

Make sure that the charge bar is completely to the back of the powder hopper. At that point the pull back chain should have a little strain (supplied by it's spring) on it. I had the same problem with mine and I found that I did not have enough tension on the chain. All you need is a couple of ounces.

I use regular cheap 30 wt motor oil for the ram before each use and nothing on the ratchet. After I finish reloading I wash the press down with non-chlorinated brake cleaner.
