452?????

Postby ronpink2 » Sun Dec 30, 2012 10:12 pm

I'm going to start casting some 45ACP 230 grain RN bullets here shortly. Got a used Lee melter the other day and am firming up a lead buy in the near future. Things looked pretty straight forward until I looked on the Lee site for moulds.

Why are the moulds for 45 listed as 452 instead of the 451 of the jacketed store bought bullets I have been using.

If you cast 1 tho over you can always resize smaller, but not the other way around, eh.

Lead bullets are usually 1 tho over compared to jacketed.

You need to slug your barrel first to find out what size. Then add .001 to that measurement and you're good to go.

my size die

Postby carload9 » Mon Dec 31, 2012 3:03 pm

my lee size die is .451. Some even use .450,(special order after april )..

I just bought (90352) this lee mold, had 90350. Sell em on ebay (i cleared 30 bucks on old one after shiping) when your tired of em! Its like cheap rental.. I hate bullets/boolits with a (90350) shoulder.

I try for at least .002" oversize . As long as the cast bullet will feed , chamber and function , the bigger they are the happier I am .

Many things about the cast bullet world are different than the jacketed bullet world .

God bless
