Upgrading to a progressive

Postby error4o4 » Tue Nov 26, 2013 3:20 pm

Currently I have a Lee Turret (4 Holes) and I have been wanting to upgrade to a progressive for quite a while.

Every time I get the itch to buy one, I'm either turn off by the horror stories and reviews of the Loadmaster or I feel silly spending that much money on a 550b.

Now that I know that there is an entire forum dedicated to fix this thing, I feel more confident on getting one

Currently I reload 9mm, 45 ACP, and .357 mag (some times .38spl, but I only have one set of dies, so i prefer to just load .357... even if they are light loads).

I have been holding on reloading .223 and 7.62x39, until I get a progressive. So most likely will get a Loadmaster in .223

I already have the brass and bullets (xtreme bullets: jacketed 223-55gr. FMJ and cooper plated 7.62X39- 123 FP). But would not mind some recommendations on powder, case lube, case trimmers (so far I have only reload handgun loads)

Planning to do subsonic loads for the 7.62x39s (make it easier to retrieve the cases as my AK seems to be overly enthusiastic ejecting brass  )

Hi eror4o4, I load 223 A powder I shot a lot of was Accurate 2230. It shot really well, is a ball powder, measures very well through the Lee case operated powder measure. Weather effects shot performance.

I have switched to IMR 8208 XBR. It is one of the smallest extruded powders, doesn't measure as easily as ball powder. Temperature doesn't seem to change shot performance in the least. I really like it.

I load 223 with Ramshot X-terminator. Found it to be very good and consistant. Of course now it is almost non-existant, so I load 223 with whatever I can find. Also have had very good results with LT-32. It also meters very well.
Good luck with your venture.

Thanks guys,

I found a good thread on AR15.com with plenty of people talking about H335 and Varget and went ahead with H-335
