Loading 380 and case/shell plate issues Fiocchi and Perfecta

Postby SauceNM » Tue May 17, 2016 8:17 pm

Just started reloading for a new Beretta Pico 380.
I'm using the same shell plate as for the .223, as suggested. Most cases work just fine but I'm having problems with the Fiocchi and some Perfecta cases. They don't seem to fit into the 4s shell plate. Is there another shell plate that can be used for the problem cases?
I can load them using my single stage press by using the RCBS #10 (.223) shell holder but hate to do that when I've got this nice Loadmaster.
When I searched for this issue I found other problems reported but didn't find any solutions.
I wouldn't mind modifying a new 4s shell plate if I knew what to do with it?

Are they too tight or too loose in the .223 shell plate ?

God bless

They are too tight. I emailed Lee Precision thinking that surely they would have a shell holder that would fit the odd ball cases... NOPE!
They told me to send in my shell holder and some sample cases and they would modify it. I'd rather not do that to my shell holder that works perfectly for my .223 and SOME of the 380's.
At some point I'll just order another shell holder and have them modify THAT one.
I've only been doing this since the first of the year and can't believe I'm the first to run into this problem.
Until I get a fix, I'll just set those cases aside.

Unless you have a lot of those cases you would be better off to just pitch them. Sounds hard to do but I think most of us have been down that road.

What Mr Rowe said. .380 cases are pretty easy to come by and much cheaper than a shell plate.
