Well , I finally did it

Postby WyrTwister » Sat Sep 03, 2016 1:22 pm

Finally broke the " toilet chain " linking the powder measure to the press ram . I dumbed up during a caliber change . 100% my fault , not that of the press / powder measure / chain .

Both parts were too short to continue working . Did not have a chain coupling to re-join both pieces . Off to run errands .

Been getting warnings on the dash of the 2008 Silverado work truck concerning tire pressure . Went to the tire store to get it taken care of . They tried to reset the system , but left front tire was reporting to their instrument 120 psi . Air gauge showed less than 40 psi . Apparently , the " module " for that tire / wheel has reached its the end of its useful life . At $ 60 + repair / replacement cost . Will mention it to the boss Tuesday .

Next , to Home Depot . Found the beaded chain ( 3' package ) in the ceiling fan department for < $ 3.00 . Figured it would be in the plumbing department .

Arrived home & opened the little blister package containing the chain . Surprise , it also contained a chain coupling . Do not know how strong the coupling is , but I am going to try just splicing together the original chain . And keeping the 3' of new chain for a spare .

We will see what we will see .

God bless

I'm thinkin three feet is a lot of "spare" chain......... :D think I've "misplaced" more of that chain than I've ever used... :)

I ditched the chain shortly after buying my presses. It got in the way.

I've been unchained for a couple of years now.

I am satisfied with the chain . Simple , inexpensive solution .

If you wish to use something different , have fun . Be happy . :-)

The reason it broke is operator error . :-(

You can eliminate the chain altogether by buying the Lee Powder Drum. It has its own internal spring return.

I have used the Auto Drum with chain disconnect attached and without disconnect attached. That is the thing about it, you can use it on a progressive with chain or without so everyone can have it their way. It is a nice tool either way.

Yeah GD, that's a fact. One can use the new Auto Drum either way. Hadn't thought about that one.
