Load Master Setup Summary

Postby jwc » Mon Feb 15, 2010 1:14 pm

I learned a lot of great tips on setting up the Load Master from users on this forum and used them to setup my press this weekend. Following is a summary:

Mount press to a sturdy workbench with 1/4" bolts

Smooth rough edges of case retainer under primer feed arm

Remove raised letters from bottom of primer depth adjustment screw

Remove any burs on primer feeding system

Lubricate and cycle the press several times after first lube to break in the press - do not apply grease to the bottom of the shell plate

ADJUST CASE RETAINERS
Remove turret
Move retainers in
Place empty case in station 1 and cycle the press

INSTALL TURRET
Apply blue LockTite on turret screw
Wiggle turret and tighten screw

INSTALL SIZING/DECAPPING DIE
Lower lever
Screw in until bottom of die contacts shell plate
Tighten lock nut
Raise lever
Screw die in additional 1/4 turn

INSTALL POWDER THROUGH/EXPANDING DIE
Lower lever
Screw in until bottom of die contacts shell plate
Unscrew die 3/4 turn and finger tighten lock nut
Turn screw in for additional flair

INSTALL BULLET SEATING DIE
Unscrew bullet seating screw to its outermost position
Open case retainer and place completed round in shell plate
Lower lever
Screw die until it makes firm contact
Finger tighten lock nut
Turn bullet seating screw until it touches the tip of the bullet

INSTALL FACTORY CRIMP DIE
Unscrew crimp die to its outermost position
Lower lever
Screw in until bottom of die contacts shell plate
Finger tighten lock nut
Open case retainer and place completed round in shell plate
Lower lever
Turn in adjusting screw until it just touches the case mouth
Lift lever
Screw in additional 1/2 turn for light crimp, one full turn for heavy crimp

ADJUST PRIMER DEPTH
Turn adjusting bolt to its most upward position
Insert case with spent primer in station 1, advance to station 2
Lower handle, turn bolt down to lever
Raise lever
Turn bolt downward two additional bolt faces
Tighten lock nut using 7/16" wrenches

INSTALL POWDER MEASURE
Wipe down powder tube and disks with anti static dryer sheet
Orient the flat side to the drop tube
Adjust the lever above the chain hole over the lever below

ADJUST POWDER CHAIN
Push handle up
Feed chain, pull lever down slightly, pull chain one additional bead

Thank you for providing this site. The videos and forum have been very helpful to me.

My positive experience with the Lee Classic Turret Press motivated me to try the Load Master even though people on the gun boards I visit generally hold Lee equipment in low regard.

My friend thinks some Lee critics start reloading with Lee gear since it is fairly inexpensive, don't follow directions, get frustrated then try another manufacturers equipment but gain experience and knowledge about reloading and blame Lee for the mistakes they made along the way.

I am still amazed at the value Lee equipment provides and that it is made in the USA. They definitely give you a lot for your money.

I have not loaded any rounds with my Load Master yet, but plan to later this week after my stand is back from powder coating.

Great job organizing the set-up procedures. Someone can easily print them and have them available as a handy reference. Another tool to add to our toolbox. :D

I'm probably the only one here who likes to preload the turret but a while back I posted this thread http://forums.loadmastervideos.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=396&highlight=preload+turret which is a summary of previous threads on this subject and OAL/COAL in general.

This info works for me.
