30-06 on classic turret

I don't load 30-06 I am trying to help somebody else. The rifle charging die specs say it will load up to 308. Is there a different charging die for 30-06 that I can't find or do you just short stroke the handle?

Lee Universal charging die (90273) may charge up to 300WM without short stroking the ram.

I have both types of charging dies and short stroking the one for the auto disk is what you have to do if you want to load long cartridges with it. The one helg is talking about is for the perfect powder measure so it won't work with the auto disk. I wonder if you contacted Lee if they have a long enough die body that you could insert the actuator in from the AD charging die to make it work?

I just short stroke mine, It is very easy to feel (when enough is enough), and you can also watch the disk on the powder measure. It also goes far enough to engage the turret rotation.

When using the disk measure on a single stage press ( the cheap Lee C-Frame press ) , I used the universal rifle powder die .

On .30-06 , I would select a charge 1/2 of what I wanted . I would charge the brass twice . Then move the brass over to the Challenger single stage press , to seat the bullet . I did not crimp .30-06 ( most of which was shot in a Garand .

On a turret press , I recommend the double disk kit and use two disks . If that is not enough , carefully enlarge the bottom disk . Label / mark it so you will know it has been modified .

I was using government surplus 4895 .

God bless
