Problem with decapping

Postby javaduke » Tue May 08, 2012 10:16 am

I reload 45ACP with my LP1K and it started having some issues with decapping. About 20% of the primers are not removed at the first attempt, and some cases simply refuse to part with their spent primers no matter how many times I try. I did adjust the sizing die as instructed, but the problem remains the same. I'm wondering if I should mess up with the decapping pin. Is this a known issue?

My guess is that you don't have the pin collet tight enough and it has pushed the pin up to far to allow it to expel the primer. All my pins run about flush with the top of the collet.

I'm with you "mike". Normally the pin must be even with the top of the tightening nut. A lot of the crimped primers will push the pin up. A good reason to use the decapping die to deprime, although it will also push up sometimes too.
