Custom seating plugs?

Postby Hawkmoon » Sun Oct 26, 2014 10:27 am

I think I have read references here to Lee offering the capability of making up custom seating plugs. Is that correct?

I mostly shoot .45 ACP and I typically load run-of-the-mill 230-grain round-nose bullets. There are times, though, when I use semi-wadcutters to test feeding in a new pistol. I had four boxes of commercially remanufactured LSWC that was purchased for that purpose, but it's mostly used up. To replace it, I bought some 200-grain SWC bullets from Berry's -- but they don't seat consistently. I suspect this is because the bullet shape isn't held in proper orientation in the ball ammo seating plug.

How would I go about getting a custom seating plug made for the SWC projectiles? Will Lee do it if I send them a couple of bullets for samples?

I guess I answered my own question:

BTW -- Can someone suggest load data for a 200-grain SWC in .45 Auto? I use Winchester 231 powder, and I'd like to duplicate the factory ammo I've been using, which runs about 830 fps on average.

Winchester powders are now distributed by Hodgdon, and their data center:

MD Smith is always good to consult:
