Where to buy bullets

Postby Hawkmoon » Tue Dec 09, 2014 11:52 pm

For shooting, I can find bullets from a variety of sources, such as Berry's. However, I have a need to replicate some factory JHP cartridges in order to test a number of pistol+magazine combinations for feed and function. That means I NEED "brand name" bullets.

My usual source for loading equipment has been Natchez Shooting Sports. Their catalog shows Hornady XTP bullets and Remington JHP (apparently not Golden Saber, but similar in shape). But ... when I tried to place an on-line order, both items were out of stock.

What are some other good sources for factory, name brand bullets?

What is "xtreme web site"? Do you mean these guys? http://www.xtremebullets.com/

They are just like Berry's -- they produce plated bullets. As I posted initially, I NEED name brand, standard configuration bullets, not cast/plated bullets from non-OEM vendors. If I wanted those, I would order from Berry's. In particular, I need standard JHP bullets, to replicate the feed and function of factory ammo without spending a dollar-plus per round.

That means I NEED "brand name" bullets.

I already explained why: Because I will be testing some new magazines for a new company, so it's important that I use the same bullets, loaded to the same COAL, as major ammo makers.

Let's try again: Does anyone know of a vendor that has in stock JHP bullets in .45 ACP from any of the following:
  • Winchester
  • Remington
  • Hornady
  • Speer
  • Federal

You might try Powder Valley, they usually have jacketed bullets.

Thanks. They have more "name" brand bullets than Natchez. Most of what I would choose is out of stock (no surprise there), but they do show a couple as being available. Some is better than none. I'm too tired to do an order tonight -- hope they don't sell out before I get back on-line in the morning.

Another possible lead for you:
http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthr ... Sale-Items
Go to the bottom part of his post #1 and there's a downloadable pdf file that lists gobs of bullets Ifactory) that may or may not be what you're looking for.

He who hesitates is lost. Between last night and tonight, one of the two bullet types I could use sold out at Powder Valley. What's left is Hornady XTPs, in 230, 200, and 185 grain weights. So I ordered 200 of the 185s and 200 of the 230s. God only knows when they might be available again.

Still don't know what I'm going to do about a bullet with an ogive profile like the Golden Saber ...

American reloading is out now, but sometimes they have jacketed hollow point pull downs from expired Govm't contracts. I got 500+ 9mm Speer gold dots from them on black Friday. Pretty cheap too as I recall, at least for 9mm. I think I paid $45 ish for the 500+. a few are rough-maybe 4-5 out of all of them have deeper dings/gouges. Rest seem to be perfectly serviceable and he said he overpacks a bit to account for a few bad eggs. For the $ I'd buy again, provided I don't come across some issue down the line, but for now they appear GTG

edit: they are out of stock now, but they "retail" at $59 and I got 20% off for black Friday. now the 45 ACP selection is different, but if you keep an eye out they get some goodies at times. Hope that helps, maybe not now, but if in the future you need some and they have them.

Looks very promising. They seem to have several that I can use in stock.

Thanks. I bookmarked the site for future reference.
