Yesterday morning my wife went out to the newspaper-box thingee under the mailbox at 5am, and no paper yet (and 34 degrees). Then she went out again at 5:30, and then again at 5:45, paper finally got there at 6:30 when I was waking up (its usually there at 5)... So today I put three micro-lever switches in the bottom of the box, wired to a 9v battery and a weather-proof ultra-bright LED attached to the back of the mailbox post, where she (or we, if I am ever up that friggin early) can see it from our laundry room.
So now she just has to glance out the window... if the LED is lit - there's a paper in the box. If it ain't lit, she can sip some Joe & watch the morning news for a bit. I just got through doing it, so if there's any interest I'll post pics and explain how its wired up.
Everything that doesn't fit in the other forums. Keep it civil.
