A little bolt work

Well I finally got around to sending the bolt from my .308 Rem 700 to Greg Tannel at Gre-Tan Rifles up in CO to get the firing pin hole bushed down in diameter and the pin taper fit to the hole. Gettin' tired of craters in my primers because of the over-sized hole. From what I have read this is a pretty common problem with factory stock rifles. Anyway, Greg comes highly recommended so we'll see what I get. Won't know how to act being able to finally get believable reads on pressure visuals.

Here is a YouTube link for a video about what Greg does to the bolts to fix the primer cratering problem. I think this will be a major improvement.

I received my bolt back from Greg today. I was shocked at how quickly he turned it around. Tracking said he received it on Saturday and his included invoice was dated the same Saturday so he must have done the work as soon as he got it. His workmanship is beautiful and I can't wait to see the results. No more cratered primers showing up on bunny fart loads.

If any of you folks have a Remington bolt gun and you are seeing cratered primers on what you know to be safe loads I would highly recommend you get this done.

Got my bolt back from Greg in record time. Great work, very clean. Attached are a couple of pictures showing the before and after. Well worth the money.

The load in these pictures was 45.5gr Varget under a 168gr A-Max. That is a fairly hot load for my gun. Cratering disappeared! Very happy.
