Almost instant benchrest stock

This is where we can talk about our guns. I'd particularly like to see reviews and range reports of your guns, especially if it is a model that others may not be familiar with.

Almost instant benchrest stock

Postby magic mike » Thu Jan 22, 2015 1:52 pm

Always wanting to test myself by trying to do something I haven't ever done before (within reason) has led to what you see in the pictures below. Just couldn't bring myself to spend $600+ for a benchrest style stock so I modified the H&S Precision stock that came with my rifle and this is what I ended up with. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The completed gun balances about one inch in front of the receiver. I think it's going to track real well in the bags. Soon as some decent range weather comes 'round I'll find out.

Next stop, new Brux stainless 10 twist barrel and trued action. At that point I will completely out of excuses!!!

Beautiful and outstanding workmanship Mike, I'm envious of your talent. What's the finish?

Thank you Sparky. The finish is automotive base/clearcoat. Had to paint it in my driveway under the carport as I sold my paint booth. Thank goodness no bugs flying around that day. The clearcoat I use goes dust free in about ten minutes. Four top coats of clear and sand with 2500 then buff. Home made polished aluminum butt plate. It remains to be seen if I am man enough anymore to not have a rubber pad.
