|
|
I have been writing to a guy in Canada that has a 1911 that has "doubled" a few times. The frame was made in 1915 and it has a 6" slide and barrel which is not original.
A few times it has fired more than one round with a single pull of the trigger. I seem to remember it has something to do with the disconnect or a weak disconnect spring.
He was told it used to be used in bullseye shooting, so the recoil spring mght be lighter than normal.
I'll pass along any advice I get here.
Thanks |

Sorry, it was not a 1911 pistol. It had doubles, pretty rare: a few times per thousand. The problem was gone after I cleaned firing pin and firing pin well. It was not too dirty, but was not cleaned at all before that.
The internet is full of stories about worn sear, and disconnector spring. |

| I wouldn't mention this on the open internet. The BATF***ers have been treating guns with worn parts that fire more than once per trigger pull as an NFA infraction, charging people, bringing them to trial, and sending them to prison. |

| Good point, but this guy lives in Canada. It might be worthwhile to delete this thread in a few days. |

Must have been 30 years ago a friend of mine replaced something in his 45. He hadn't fired it yet, asked me if I wanted to shoot it. Of course my answer was yes. When I touched that thing off it unloaded the mag with one touch!
He had a shocked look and asked me how I fired it that fast. He honestly had no idea it was screwed up. We fired a box of shells though it that way and quit because it was drawing too much atention.
He repaired the pistol. It was what I consider next to usless in the full auto state, because it was near imposable to hit anything with. Got to admit though, it was fun. |

It actually pulls the trigger each time but what about those hell fire devices and what they call bump firing? My oldest son had one but gave it away when he got tire of wasting ammo. |

| Last summer my RIA 1911 fired 2 rounds in rapid succession. It did this a couple of times in one day. The gun had only about 2,000 rounds through it at that point. I immediately sent it back to customer service. They said the sear spring was weak and replaced it as well as the recoil spring. Hasn't happened since. Not only did they fix that problem, on my request they polished the feed ramps so that it would easily feed fp's and swc's. All at no cost to me! |

Could be a bad trigger job. Many trigger jobs are made by bending (weakening) the sear spring. I had it done on my STI 2011. Signs of a very weak sear spring are hammer fall and full auto (double rounds).
Replace or bend the sear spring. |
