In the past while loading on a Dillon 650 (Which is a great press, but I prefer the Load-Master.) I had quite a few cases that went through the sizing die, but still had the fired primer in the case. This of course didn’t work out very well. I recently started reloading the 380 Auto on the LM and have had the same problem.
What happens is the spent primer deforms, pinches to the decapping pin, pin extracts and pulls the primer most of the way back into the primer cup.
What I did to correct this on the Dillon was to sand a slight taper on the decapping pin with a Dremel Tool sanding disk. This worked very well. The problem went away. So I just done it on my Lee decapping dies that I use on the Load-Master. Problem solved.
I don’t know what primer brands it happens on because I use a mix of any primer I can get. |

Woops! This didn't pan out very well! After doing what I stated above I'm going to be replacing my decapping pins.
Now I remember what I originally did...... I had to break the edges on the end of the Dillon decapper with a buffing wheel. The one I had trouble with had a pretty square cut off.
Oh well..... pretty normal for me. Now I got this weeks mistake out of the way and ready to start on the next one. |
